Nike Unveils The All-New Tiempo Legend 8 Boot

A technical beast of a classic boot

27th June 2019

A technical beast of a classic boot

It’s been around for more than twenty years and its been two years since its last re-design, so it was about time that Nike transformed one of its most iconic football boot silhouettes – the Nike Tiempo Legend 8 – ahead of another new season.

Originally launched in 1984, the Nike Tiempo is now in its eighth iteration. The all-new Nike Tiempo Legend 8 is not only an aesthetic update but a full technical upgrade too. Focussed on building a lighter, more comfort-focussed boot, the Tiempo Legend 8 has already been labelled ‘perfect’ by the players who have been lucky enough to don the boots.

Dropping in a pair of debut colour ways – the stealthy-named ‘Under The Radar’ edition which features a blue and black colourway alongside the statement all-white “Nouveau’ edition – the Tiempo VIII has been built under the mantra of ‘the softest touch for the hardest working players’ thanks to its premium kangaroo leather uppers which is cut in a diamond shape design to offer a soft, uninterrupted touch.

Nike Sport Research Lab data indicates that Flyknit hugging a boot’s arch makes a player feel more secure, so a new Flyknit Fit Tunnel was created for the Tiempo Legend 8 that provides a supportive, snug fit around the midfoot too.

This is complemented by Quadfit mesh in the forefoot that stretches in four directions to accommodate any foot shape, while simultaneously preventing overstretching of the outer leather layer.

Elsewhere, a stitchless quilted diamond pattern on the upper helps keep water and mud from seeping in, and avoids the tiny perforations to the leather that would occur in traditional stitching.

While often associated with a classic aesthetic, the Tiempo Legend 8 was tested on some of the world’s best players in a dazzle camo colorway which you will have seen on the likes of Sergio Ramos and Joe Gomez towards the end of last season. This one-time boot will be available in limited-edition quantities over the coming months too. The all-new Tiempo Legend 8, however, is likely to be seen on the feet of the world’s best midfielders and defenders, and it will be Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk who will front the new generation boot this time around.

The all-new Nike Tiempo Legend 8 launches today, June 24th 2019 in black and white colorways at nike.com/football
