A tribute like you’ve never heard before…

Nike have called upon the help of three of the UK’s biggest MCs in the form of Little Simz, Lady Leshurr and Ms Banks to inspire the Lionesses while they strive for greatness at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.

The Lionesses got their World Cup campaign off to a strong start recently with a 2-1 win over Scotland but Nike’s latest incentive aims to inspire the women’s team to go all the way in the competition.

The series of three short films takes us behind the scenes and into the real life stories of three incredible athletes to showcase the years of hope, hard work and daily grit to make it as elite athletes. Each tribute is from a MC at the top of their game delivered to a female athlete at the top of theirs.

The films feature a performance from the respective MCs in front of the iconic backdrop of Wembley stadium and is accompanied by grassroots football scenes captured in the athlete’s hometowns, featuring archival material of them playing as kids while D Malice’s classic grime instrumental “Gabryelle Refix” rings out as the series’ soundtrack.

First up, Lady Leshurr pays tribute to the captain, Steph Houghton. The lyricist digs deep into the born leader, from her dominating performances in primary school to her scoring feats at the Olympics.

Elsewhere, Little Simz tells us the story of unbreakable spirit; of a player who comes back from every knock a stronger person. A modern day 5’2 giant. Fran Kirby has battled adversity more than once and has risen time and again.

Last but not least, Ms Banks presents a tribute to one of the toughest in the game. Lucy Bronze, like so many female athletes, has had to overcome so many barriers. But it’s what made her the player she is today; one of the finest players in the world.

Be sure to cop the new England’s women home shirt at Nike.com ahead of England’s next group game vs. Argentina on Friday 14th June.
