Football always has the power to conjure up stories that are so impactful that they transcend the game. This week, West London club Queens Park Rangers have made a change that will positively impact the lives of thousands of youths across the capital by with the renaming of Loftus Road. As, from next season, Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road stadium will be renamed The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Kiyan Prince was a member of QPR’s youth academy and at the age of just 15, he attempted to break up a fight outside his school on 18 May, 2006, but tragically lost his life.

His father, Mark, set up The Kiyan Prince Foundation to educate young people about the devastating consequences of knife crime and said: “I can’t tell you what this means to Kiyan’s mum, to me, his brothers and sisters, his friends and people who have been supporting the work we have been doing.

“Kiyan was a very special young man. We hear many stories about his kindness and good nature so to have the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium at a place where his skills were honed is a dream come true.”

The R’s had announced their intention to gift the naming rights to the ground to a charity in April. After receiving nominations from supporters, Championship club Rangers drew up a shortlist of five charities before asking fans to select their preferred choice.

The Kiyan Prince Foundation was the overall winner, with more than 63% of votes.

The renaming of the stadium is an incredible gesture and a historic moment in the modern game. We at GAFFER hope this amazing initiative continues to make a difference to young people’s lives across the capital.
