The Changing Face of Football
We take an immersive look into the cross-cultural impact of the beautiful game. Exclusively Curated by GAFFER, the two week exhibition is on display in the new StockX drop-off pop-up shop on 47 Poland Street, Soho, London, W1F 7ND, from the 6th December to December 15th.
As we approach the end of another decade of incredible football achievement, we take a look at the vital role the game plays in shaping the world we live in today.
“I learned all about life with a ball at my feet.” – Ronaldinho
Football has never been more popular, more powerful or more wealthy. Yet there is still a nagging sense that something has been lost. That, in the rush to cash in on the economic boom of the 00s, clubs left their core audience behind and the game has lost its essence. But we think football has never been better. To celebrate our breakout year, and to continue to bridge the gap between football, music, fashion and culture, GAFFER is documenting the Changing Face of Football by paying homage to the leaders, designers and iconic collectibles which are changing the game forever.
The free, two-week long exhibition also features The Jersey Room, which offers an exploration into the cultural shift and significance of the modern football jersey.
Football jerseys are emblems of us and where we are from, which is why they are so important and their designs are considered to be sacrosanct. But, with football moving ever closer into the slipstream of fashion and music, the jersey – and what it stands for and what it represents – is changing. We capture the fusion between fashion and football by charting the replica shirt renaissance, presenting the bold designs of high-fashion collaborations, and by exploring how designers are introducing sustainability into performance clothing.
